Peterborough United 0-1 Blackpool

In the final game at London Road this season Peterborough United sunk to a 1-0 defeat to play-off chasing Blackpool.Gary Johnson was forced topick a team filled with reserve and youth team players with numerous members of the first team squad suffering from injury. Ian Holloway, on the other hand, had a full squad to choose from as hisside looked to pick up three points to keep their play-off hopes alive.DJ Campbell seemed to have put his off field troubles behind him as he immediately proved a threat to the Posh back line capitalising on a Danny Andrew mistake, the young full-back was making his Peterborough United debut after being recalled earlier in the week from a loan spell at Cheltenham, and testing James McKeown, making a rare start, in the Posh goal. After 11 minutes DJ Campbell gave the visitors the lead, easing the travelling supports nerves, in what was a crucial game for the Lancashire based club, and make the home fans think that there could be a repeat of the 6-0 drubbing Posh received last week against Reading. The impre sive McKeown was called into action again moments later saving a powerful header from Blackpool centre back Ian Evatt. Danny Andrew completed the save hacking the ball away. Some Blackpool players were appealing to the referee thinking the ball had gone beyond the line and that their side should havebeen further in front.Blackpool continued to exert pre sure on the hosts and McKeown was once again called into action saving a DJ Campbell shot well after scrambling back acro s his line. The chance had came about as a result of Dale Hawerchuck Men Jersey some poor defending with Ryan Bennett trying to be to flamboyant rather than just doing the basics and averting the danger simply.Peterborough made a better start to the second half after a Gary Johnson team-talk and created their first real chance of the match. Craig Mackail-Smiths persistence saw him break through the challenges of two Blackpool defenders before seeing his shot parried by Matthew Gilks, who was effectively a spectator up to this point, before the rebound fell to Nathan Koranteng but, under pre sure, he smashed his opportunity wide of the near post.Danny Andrew, put under pre sure from the lively DJ Campbell, failed to clear after a long, high ball and allowed the Blackpool striker to run clear on goal but McKeown was a match to the shot getting a strong right hand to the ball. McKeown hadnt fully cleared the danger though and when Barry Bannan, a second half substitute, squared the ball along the goal line Campbell just couldnt make contact with an empty net in front of him.Bannan, on loan from Aston Villa, was lively and his runs were splitting the inexperienced Posh defence open at times. He was once again allowed too much space and his jinking run past numerous Peterborough defenders created another Blackpool opportunity but McKeown was once again a match to the shot.Blackpool were beginning to look nervous towards the end of the match, the players would have known that Swansea, their main contenders for the 6th and final play-off spot, were behind after the two loud cheers that had gone up previously from their vociferous support. These nerves provided Ben Wright with a glorious opportunity but he fired his close range shot straight at Gilks in the dying moments. The final whistle was greeted with very different emotions from the two Derek Stepan Kids Jersey sets of fans. Blackpool players and fans alike were jubilant as they had leapfrogged Swansea into the play-off spots; every single Blackpool player threw his shirt into the away crowd. Peterborough United fans were a lot more muted; a brief applause from players to spectators, and vice versa, capped off the final home game of an awful season for Posh fans.
